Whitby Goth Festival is a real treat for photographers! It would be fair to say that the festival attracts Goths and Photographers in equal measure. And for those image makers who might be a little bit shy when taking street photos of people, then the festival is a real cure. Enthusiasts dressed in amazing costumes just love to pose for photographs… albeit is still polite to ask.
Held twice a year the Whitby Goth Festival is a celebration of the Goth sub-culture and benefits from the town’s association with Bram Stoker’s Dracula. With music and markets, it is a family-friendly, and photographer-friendly event.
Several Viewfinders are travelling down to the festival on Sunday, 1st November via a coach trip organised by Les Holland Coach Travel (£16pp): https://www.leshollandcoachtravel.co.uk/trips/whitby-goth-2
On the 2nd of November 2016, the Viewfinders Through the Lens photography group made a leap from being an online group to a real-life photography club via a public meeting attended by over 50 people, held at the Haven Arms.
During November 2026 we intend to mark the 10th Anniversary of the club with a series of at least ten events that can interest both members old and new. Whether you were one of those photographers who attended that public meeting or only started creating photos this week, we hope that some of these events will appeal, and you will come along and take part.
